About Anna Birgitta Ledin

Anna Birgitta Ledin has been the Director of the Environmental Administration at the City of Gothenburg since 2014. Before that she was the Secretary General for the Swedish Research Council, Formas and a Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Technical University of Denmark, Lund University and Linköping University. Anna got her PhD in analytical and environmental chemistry at Linköping University in 1993, and became a Reader at the same university in 1996. She has extensive experience working for sustainable development in different positions at municipality and national levels as well as in academia.
Today, she is responsible for coordinating and pushing the work to fulfill the aims in the city’s environmental and climate program. This responsibility includes a very challenging task – the climate transition. The most challenging part is transforming the traditional governance of a city into one that can make this transition happen.

The climate contract - At the EU, national and municipality levels

Making the transition to climate-neutral and sustainable cities requires cooperation between citizens, politicians, businesses and civil servants on a scale never seen before. National, regional and local levels must work collectively in new ways, in the same direction to achieve climate-neutral cities. And we need to do it faster.
